Blackboard Ultra
How to access assessment materials to carry out your External Examiner duties

From September 2021, Teesside University has moved to a new Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) - Blackboard Ultra.  Blackboard Ultra is a modern, responsive platform, designed to function on all devices (including mobile) and will enhance the student learning experience through the creation of an expansive learning ecosystem.

The transfer to Blackboard Ultra means that there will be changes in how you interact with the system.  Whilst we aim to develop a Module Box content section that will replicate the 'old' system in the future, it means that your access to moderation materials will be somewhat different until this development work has been completed.

The following is a list of requirements for what the Module Leaders should include in the Module Boxes in line with TU expectations/policy:

·         Internal Moderation Pack

·         Sample of ICA work and feedback

·         Additional information (as appropriate)

To ensure that all appropriate moderation materials are available, School staff have been fully briefed on how to create a Module Box folder within the Module Content area of Blackboard Ultra and how to ensure that it is visible to you.  As an External Examiner you should be able to view the same module content as a student, plus all assignment submissions, grades and feedback, and the Module Box area for modules that have been assigned to you.  The following links, which have been provided to academic staff to assist them in setting up the Module Boxes, provide more information about how the new look access will work and they may help you to familiarise yourself with the new system – Help Guide on module boxes, Blackboard Ultra-Digital Student and a Walkthrough video.

The Module Box folder will be hidden from student view and will only be accessible to Module Leaders and External Examiners. Once the Module Boxes have been created and made available to you, they will follow the standard format and include appropriate content as described in the Assessment & Feedback Policy (Appendix F – Module Box Checklist), to assist you in carrying out your role.

If you have any questions about access to Blackboard Ultra or are unable to access a Module Box, please contact the Module Leader or your School Admin contact in the first instance. For more technical queries, please contact ithelp@tees.ac.uk .

You will be unable to login to Blackboard Ultra until you have received your staff associate account x number, following right to work checks and the submission of your personal details form.
